This collection contains letters from members of the Alfred L. Williams family of Owosso, Michigan.Most of the letters were written to Alfred L. Williams' daughter, Clara, by her sisters. The letters discuss pioneer life, the problems of being a single girl, hired help and treating illness with various home remedies. Also discussed are the development of the town, social life in Owosso and the Wesener fire in 1885, in which the block between Washington and Main streets burned....

The Alfred P. Cannon collection contains two photos taken by Cannon of the Beal Pinetum and the Michigan State University forestry cabin. Cannon was a forestry student at the Ohio State University and took the photos during a visit to Michigan State.

This collection contains Sherritt's letters home while serving with the 2nd Canadian Mounted Rifles. Included are letters from his mother, Janetta Sherritt, to family members, as well as newspaper reprints of some of his letters. Also included are articles relating to Sherritt's death and the battle of Hart's River.

This collection consists of home cures and recipes for medicines for various human and animal diseases, including cholera, diphtheria, catarrh, and baldness. Some of the remedies were copied by hand, others clipped from newspapers. The collection also includes a notebook of remedies collected by George S. Barber of Grass Lake, Michigan.

The Thompson collection consists of 1,866 glass plate negatives and three lantern slides. There are also 573 contact prints in the collection of which 494 are from the plates. Some of the prints are 8x10 inches and others are 3 ½ inch squares. The prints of the 3 ½ inch images are noted in the finding aid with the notation “(print available) 3 ½.” A list of the 8x10 inch prints can be found at the end of the finding aid.
